The Onion Man

May 25th, 2007 by chiquita

Greetings!! I happened to read the local Clarksville newspaper the other day and I came across a very interesting article. It was about a man who had a fascination with onions. Yes you read it correctly, ONIONS!! I’m not talking about eating onions here and there, this man admitted to eating onions for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!! =(. I was horrified…who could love onions that much?!?! Prepare yourself for what I am about to say next…his favorite onion combinations were peanut butter and onion sandwiches w/buttermilk and his second fav. combo was pickled pigs feet w/a peanut butter and onion sandwich w/buttermilk!! Are you serious!?!? I blacked out for a couple of seconds but thankfully soon came back to reality. This article was absolutely shocking to me…I didn’t think anyone liked onions…plus I heard they’re not the greatest breath fresheners if you know what I mean. But hey, whatever floats your boat! So as you can see, the people of Clarksville will always keep you amazed. Some things may seem a little strange..but deep inside we all have things a little strange about us. There’s an onion man in everyone..=). So if you’re living in a city that’s starting to become a little boring, move to good ole Clarksville and live amongst the onion men and women of today!! If you too are an onion lover, feel free to leave a comment about what it is like for you. I would LOVE to hear about what makes them appeal to you. If you just want to leave a comment about how disgusted you are or one of your obsessions go right ahead!! I look forward to reading your comments!!Check back often for more news on Clarksville and its people!!

Goodbye Spring, Hello Summer!!

May 9th, 2007 by chiquita

Hello to all of you out there! My name is Chiquita and I am a Junior Nursing major just like my fellow blogger Millie. Of course I am going to be a much better nurse than she, just kidding!! She’s going to be a great nurse wherever she goes. Let me start off by saying thanks for taking the time to read my blog, I really appreciate the support and hope you will visit often.

Well as you all know, the wonderful season of Summer has started. I am doing some work for the Admissions Office this summer and I am also giving tours of the campus so feel free to come on down! We have some truly great people working in the admissions department. Anyways, No one, and I mean NO ONE is more happy than I that Spring is over. Don’t get me wrong, Spring semester wasn’t horrible, it’s just that this past spring was very challenging for me as far as focusing on my schoolwork. Picture this, a 19 yr. old student finally leaves her SUPER strict home and lives on campus for the very first time, she finds her first real boyfriend, gets to go to clubs for the first time, has no curfew for the first time, and gets to make up her own mind about whether she wants to go to class or not for the first time. She realized she would be facing these obstacles if she moved out, but being naive, she thought it would be no problem at all and that it would be easy for her to manage her time.WRONG! WRONG!WRONG! Did I say wrong? All of a sudden, school was not as important, grades began to drop, and suddenly goals seemed out of reach. By the end of the spring semester, the student finds herself barely holding on to her gpa and scholarships. Who was this student? Unfortunately, it was me. I experienced all these things this past semester. Although it was very tough for me to go through, I would not change a thing. I learned that part of growing up is making your own decisions, and unfortunately for me I was choosing to have a social life over an academic one. Before, I really didn’t have a say in the matter because my parents were right there watching my every move, but once the decision making was all on me I fumbled a little bit. So sadly, I will be making up for this past semester during the summer, but I have faith I will get back on the right path.

I didn’t tell you all my story to discourage you from living on campus or making the big leap from your home. I told you so that you will make much better choices than I made once you decide to step out on your own for the first time. It’s going to be exciting and overwhelming and school may not seem so appealing, but you have to focus on why you’re in college: to get a degree and to make $$$$$!! =). It’s perfectly fine to have a social life but remember your grades are what’s going to take you places and help you reach your goals in life. One day the social scene will be gone but your degree will last a lifetime. So look back on my story from time to time and make sure you’re not making the same mistakes!! Or you’ll have to answer to me!! =) Please feel free to ask me any questions about living on campus, classes, or working for admissions. I would love to hear from you all!! Well this is all for now, I got places to go, people to see, and food to eat. =) Stay tuned for the next blog! img_0085.JPG
